The Office of the Prime Minister is reminding Cook Islanders that there are now just two weeks remaining to submit nominations for Te Tango Raumaire o Avaiki: The Cook Islands National Awards 2026.
With nominations closing at 4pm on Sunday, 31 May 2026, Cook Islanders are being encouraged to take part in recognising outstanding individuals who have made a meaningful contribution to the nation, including those serving across ministries, government agencies, Pa Enua communities, organisations and the wider community.
This year’s nomination process has been designed to be more accessible and straightforward than ever before, allowing nominations to be completed quickly online, while paper forms also remain available for those who prefer them.
Prime Minister Mark Brown said the awards represent an opportunity for all Cook Islanders to honour those whose service and achievements continue to strengthen the country.
“Across our public service, our villages, our islands and our communities, there are individuals quietly making a real difference every day. These awards are about acknowledging those people and celebrating the values that unite and inspire us as a nation,” he said.
“We especially want to encourage more nominations from across all government departments and agencies. There are many deserving public servants and community leaders whose dedication often goes unseen, and this is an opportunity to recognise their contribution on behalf of all Cook Islanders.”
Established by an Act of Parliament in 2025, Te Tango Raumaire o Avaiki provides a uniquely Cook Islands system of national recognition that honours service, leadership and achievement across a range of fields.
Nominations can be submitted online in just a few simple steps via the official nomination form:

- Island Administration offices in the Pa Enua.
Selection Committee member Sonny Williams said the extended nomination period was intended to give more people the opportunity to put forward someone deserving of national recognition.
“We know there are many people throughout our country doing extraordinary work for their communities, often without expecting recognition,” he said.
“The nomination process is now easier and more accessible than ever, so we encourage ministries, departments, workplaces and communities to take the time to nominate someone who has made a positive impact.”
Nominations may be submitted by individuals, organisations, community groups or workplaces on behalf of someone they believe deserves recognition. Please note that individuals cannot nominate themselves.
Awards recipients will be notified in July, with presentations to take place during a special Constitution Day ceremony on Tuesday, 4 August 2026.
