SPAM Bill passing welcomed by TCI (Feb 14, 2008)
General Manager of Telecom Cook Islands (TCI), Stuart Davies says he is absolutely delighted that Parliament unanimously supported the Cook Islands SPAM Bill which was tabled by the Prime Minister Jim Marurai this week.
The thirty one page Bill is to stop unsolicited sending of electronic messages (Spam) and related activities that are of high nuisance factor to users of Internet locally and overseas. There is concern both in Government and the Private sector about the rise in Spam or junk-mail filtering through the mail system. Davies said, passing of the Bill is a positive step by the Cook Islands Government in joining the global fight against Spam, while other Pacific countries are waiting for theirs (Bill) to be passed. "Perhaps they could use the Cook Islands as a role model.". Source: Govmedia
